If your child breaks a tooth acts swiftly
In occasions a small missteps or a blow can cause a dental trauma, but do you know how to act if your son is accidentally broken a tooth?
Last month was held in Madrid the 2nd Biennial Congress of the Official College of dentists and dentists of the First Region (EMCO). In the meeting addressed several issues, including: how to improve communication with the patient, the odontofobia or how to react in the breakage of a tooth. In Spain the cases of dental trauma in children and adolescents have increased in recent years, and may have important consequences when it comes to children or adolescents, who already have permanent teeth.
One of the main causes of dental trauma in children and adolescents are contact sports. The experts recommend knowing a few simple guidelines for first aid to ‘save’ the final tooth, because otherwise the tooth that is lost, is lost for life, with the resulting physical and psychological consequences that occur in the child and adolescent.
The key measures that are advise from the College of dentists of Madrid (COEM) are:
-If the permanent tooth comes out of its place by a coup, we must try to go to the dentist in the first hour after the trauma. In this period of time the tooth still can be replenished and you can avoid its loss for life.
-If we cannot go to the dentist in the first hour after injury, we must quickly put the tooth in milk or in physiological saline, in this way we can “save” the tooth.
-It is important to protect the teeth with a mouthguard in young people who play contact sports, because they can prevent these injuries.
Milk teeth
If your child breaks a tooth of milk does not have to let it go. It must be borne in mind that if you do not remain in its place the scheduled time the permanent teeth may grow poorly in the future. In case of loss the dentist will determine what to do to keep the gap of the piece and prevent the permanent teeth come out incorrectly.
And remember, in the event that your son suffer an accident prevents the loss of the tooth using these simple tips.
