Alicante and Murcia: Healthy destinations
A trip is always beneficial for soul and body. We travel a lot and for many reasons; wellness is today one of them. The province of Alicante and the Region of Murcia have the know-how and the technology in their Hospitals and Clinics run by prestigious medical specialists.
Therefore, the number of people travelling to look for a health improvement or healing are many. And the main prescription of a good doctor is prevention.
Health tourism is today a great opportunity for the Spanish economy. According to a study commissioned and published by the Spanish Ministry of Tourism, the “Health Tourism” product is the key for an economic prosperity in the coming years. Alicante and Murcia have everything needed to position themselves on the international map as true healthy powerful areas. In this sense, the data coming from the Tourism Department speaks for itself: “around 400,000 international visitors perform some activity related to health during their stay in Valencia”.
It is an affluent tourism, and it has been taken into account when creating the Spanish Cluster of Health Tourism, which aims to: “Quadruple the turnover of the sector, going from the current 144 million to 500 million Euros in 2015”. The city of Alicante, is already working in this line, so we can find two programs related to it: “Alicante’s Health Network” and “Healc, your healthy destination”.
British and Nordic citizens, among many other nationalities, seek treatments, surgery or wellness programs in Alicante and Murcia.
A land in the south-eastern part of Spain blessed by the sun, the seawater and the Segura River: imposing gardens, sunbathing, health resorts, spas, sports, mud therapy, wine lover tourism, oleo tourism, and even the only saltwater lake in Europe: the Mar Menor.
The Mediterranean Diet is our star. It is a part our lives, today is shown to reduce the risk of heart problems and breast cancer, among other benefits. Alicante and Murcia are Pure Mediterranean. We have a Foundation that protects the Mediterranean Diet as a way of life beneficial for the health and welfare of people. As if it were not enough, there is evidence that it contributes to the maintenance of sustainable agriculture and the protection of the environment. The latest science advances speak of wine, and conclude that the Mediterranean drinking manner increases longevity, reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and does not significantly affect the risk of having cancer. And it is that resveratrol is a compound that plays a major role on longevity.
With all this data you may wonder why you did not have the luck to be born in the Mediterranean, as the song of Serrat ,our songwriter, says. So why wait…Come and visit, you may love it!
